Going All In On All Green

Forest green beret, green and navy blue plaid baby doll dress, green faux velvet loafer.

Wearing:
Gifted Beret
Old Dress
Thrifted Loafers

Your girl likes a theme. I am not a green wearer, but forest green and deep greens are my favorite. I have had this dress for years and it's one of my favorite fall pieces! I was recently given the gift of a green beret and ugh, I can't wait to wear berets all fall and winter. I have green, red, pink and black and all I need is a brown and yellow and I will be forever happy.

This outfit is going all in on all green. The beret, the dress, the loafers, it's a theme I went hard on.

Longing for Long Sock Season

Black wide brim hat, yellow oversized cardigan, black and white striped tee tucked into a blue denim skirt, with over the knee black socks and black Chelsea boots.

Wearing:
Thrifted Hat
Old Urban Outfitters Cardigan
Old Tee
Thrifted Skirt
Old Over the Kneee Socks
Old Chelsesa Boots

Quintessential early fall dressing here. It's too hot to wear this, yet here I am, wearing it. Maybe it's because I'm just in the mood to layer, or maybe it's because I already transitioned my wardrobe and now I have no choice.

Plaid Under

Black wide brim fedora, red plaid shirt under a black mockneck dress, belted at the waist with black Chelsea boots.

Wearing:
Old Forever 21 Hat
Thrifted Flannel
Thrifted Dresss
Old Chelsea Boots

We can just say I'm a fan of layering things under and over dresses. Pieces need to serve multiple purposes in my wardrobe and so, you will see me style things multiple ways.

Black Leopard

Black floppy hat, black peasant blouse, a leopard scarf tied and belted like a skirt, and black booties.

Wearing:
Thrifted Hat
Thrifted Blouse
Old Scarf as Skirt
Thrifted Booties

Pretend witchy woman.

How do you guys feel about the word "witch" being used in fashion noawadays? Are we correlating the magic of witches to that of fashion, or, are we taking bits and pieces of the archetype of a witch--big hats, all black--and reclaiming them?

I think the popularity of the new Sabrina show, the American Horror Story season with witches, and the sexual health, wellness and independence movement has really fueled the use of the word in fashion, and I'm here for it.

Remind me to never compliment how nice the weather is--it's 94. Ninety four. 94 degrees outside and the last thing I want to do is wear a tank top and sandals. So I'm not.

False fall has came and gone and now we're in second summer. The weather is foretasted to have hot days and cool nights this week and the foreseeable future and man, I just want cool days.

Balance

Brown panama hat, black and white striped long sleeve mock neck skirt tucked into a brown faux suede button down midi skirt and brown d'orsay flats.

Wearing:
Brown Panama Hat
Old H&M Top
Thrifted Skirt
Target d'Orsay Flats

This outfit needs balance. I like imbalance sometimes, but, honestly, it's almost like a compulsion for me to want to balance an outfit. A long sleeve top should be paired with a longer skirt, and though I love this outfit, ugh, if the skirt was a little longer it'd be my favorite. If I had a duster on, than that would evoke balance and I'd be much happier with it.

The employee at Lush complemented me, though, so I have outward approval, too!

Pinafore Layering

Black floppy hat, maroon red long sleeve tiered blouse layered under a black pinafore dress with black side buckle boots.

Wearing:
Thrifted Hat
Thrifted Blouse
Thrifted Pinafore
Thrifted Boots

A fully thrifted outfit! Though most of my clothes are second hand, or ethically purchased, it's still a struggle to create outfits head to toe with completely thrifted items. I find that my city lacks stylish shoes and I can never find good shoes on Poshmark or Depop in my size that aren't expensive. Sorry, I'm not spending $45 on the shoes you bought from a "boutique" that buys from China for way less than that. I am definitely trying, though!

I didn't thrift these all together, of course, I've collected these over the years. The pinafore is the newest, with me snatching it off the rack last year. The blouse is fairly new, too, but the hat and shoes I have had forever.

This outfit screams fall. It screams hot apple cider in the apple orchard, which I'm happy to announce my husband and I will do this fall! We've never been apple picking, and my husband is a connoisseur of apples, so it's going to be a lot of fun. I probably won't wear this there, though.

You mean to tell me we're a week into September and it's not fall yet?
I'm not one of those people. I'm impatient for my favorite season, of course, but at the same time, I want summer to take it slow. Autumn signifies the end of the year, and honestly, this year has gone by so fast that I'm okay with fall taking it's time.
I just want colder weather.

Maxi Season

The temperatures have seemed to cool down a bit, and I'm happy to report I didn't roast in this outfit! I know that it's still too hot to wear this day-to-day, but on this mildly windy, mid 70s day, it was fine!
Maxi season, I think, is actually in summer, but I can't help but to think these styles look better in the colder months.

My Husband's Shirt

An outfit consisting of a black and yellow button down long sleeve flannel shirt tucked into a mini denim a-line skirt and black Chelsea boots.

Wearing:
Thrifted Men'sFlannel (I'm proud of him)
Thrifted Skirt
Old Boots

Pro tip: wear men's clothes for fun, I stole this (sorry) from my husband's closet and it's giving me PNW vibes? It feels like, old style Portland-area skater. I think it's because this is a Tony Hawk brand shirt and my husband actually skateboards, but don't bring me down, okay?

Consistent

Wearing:
 Old Panama Hat
Vintage Blouse
Thrifted Skirt
Target d'Orsay Flats

Some things are consistent, like me wearing this hat and these shoes. I know they're damn near glued to my body, but I can guarantee you I wear other hats and have other shoes.

You know what I'm going to say--it's too hot. But, now I'm going to stop saying it because it's a given that I'm wearing seasonably inappropriate things for the sake of being impatient for fall.
I'm having a hard time not wearing all of my favorite fall weather clothing at the moment. It's all hanging there, waiting for me to wear it and I'm just like, Mother Nature, get it together!

Too Hot to Layer

An outfit consisting of a black wide brim fedora, a brown suede laser cut shawl jacket, a white vintage blouse with lace lib detailing, black pleated skirt and brown d'orsay flats.

Wearing:
Old Hat
Thrifted Vintage Blouse
Old Skirt
Target d'Orsay Flats

White, black and brown all over.

Perforated and laser cut details will always get me, and thought this jacket is not new by any means, it will always make me swoon. It's still way too hot to wear it out and about, but let me live!

I'm just going to state to the obvious, but, it's September. Yeah, I know, it's the ninth month out of the year and 2020 is looming around the corner.

This outfit has ~~fall vibes~~ but it's not actually too hot for late summer. Both the skirt and the blouse are lightweight, so it's kind of a cop out to call this a fall outfit. If I really wanted to evoke fall, I'd need to out on tights, long socks, a short skirt, a lightweight sweater and then a shawl over, even though it's 83 outside. I'm not above pre-shooting outfits because I'm excited for the season, but I'm not going to commit to pretending it's fall outside when my AC is on and I can hear cicadas.

Why oh why did I think wearing a turtleneck in August was a good idea? Newsflash, Katie, the last day of August is still muggy and hot, turtlenecks are not needed.

Three cheers to the three day weekend! Except I still have to work Monday, so, it's not a three day weekend of me.

Lace and leopard are a match made in heaven and I don't even need to explain why I styled them together. Just add leather and you have a classic cool girl outfit, but it's a bit too hot for leather, so lets go for brown accents to summerize the look.

Still Too Hot For Linen

I just want to layers, guys. Dresses under skirts with tights and cardigans...ugh. I know it's basic to love fall, but it's just fast approaching and that's all I want.

Plus, I never claimed to not be basic. I don't think there is anything wrong with liking what other people like, and doing what other people do. If you base your life around being basic versus being more complex, I feel like you're not being yourself. If you have to force yourself to like things for the sake of being a more complex, unique person, than I think you're building yourself up to not actually being yourself. If you like Pumpkin Spice than drink it. If you like fall than proclaim it. Life is too short to try to be someone you're not.

That's a lot of words for saying it's okay to like fall.

Layer to Make it Better

An outfit consisting of a yellow flounce short sleeve dress, black spaghetti strap dress over top, belted at the waist, with black caged open toe slide sandals.

Wearing:
Thrifted Yellow Dress
Thrifted Black Dress
Thrifted Sandals

Layering makes it seem like you know what you're doing. Layering is the number one consistent thing that I do in my outfits. I like to layer interest under plain, and I like to layer collars under collarless, and I like to put jackets, cardigans and shawls over complete outfits, and it just takes your outfit to the next level.

Of course, it is too hot to don any of the aforementioned outerwear, so I have to scratch the itch with just layering lightweight dresses, but hey, it works!

I know it's false fall right now, but let me live a little.

So, Pumpkin Spice Latte made it's yearly debut today, so it's not only me who is in that fall mood. I don't like pumpkin spice--apple cider for life--but it's just a reminder that fall is closer than we think!
