Corsetry - A Modern Corset Lookbook

Corsets are back.

Or rather, the corset look is back. I resisted at first--mostly because they didn't really make fashion ones for plus size--so, I was late to the party. But, you can't truly be late when corset are a historical item, can you?

Very Berry Velvet

The easiest way to style a corset is to wear it with an outfit you'd already wear. The sweater and skirt combo is a normal outfit for me, so adding a corset just adds something extra. The berry color isn't present in the corset, but it's also not ill-matching, so, all in all, it's a nice, basic (for me) outfit.

Fairytale

This corset lends itself to the fantastical part of my wardrobe. The pink fluffy tulle skirts, the sheer sleeves--it's pretty obvious from this outfit I was heavily inspired by fantasy and royalty/princesscore. This isn't a modern way of wearing a modern corset, but it's fun.

Fall Inspired

I wanted to pull out the yellows and neutral colors of the corset, so I paired the corset with a sheer sleeve black bodysuit and a mustard yellow velvet skirt. I then paired that with a coordinated brown wide brim hat and brown midi boots. I like how the colors pull towards an Autumn palette, even though, brown and yellow are perfectly fine Spring colors.

Leather Midi

I think one of the best ways to modernize a garment like a corset is to style it with leather, especially in an unexpected color of leather. The sheer blouse with colorful sequin flowers is a nod to the floral print of the corset, and the skirt matches the pinks in both the corset and the sheer blouse.

Maiden

Lady in waiting, are you there? This is definitely a fantasy, princessy inspired look, but I don't think it's too costumey to go out in. The skirt doesn't look like much, but it's incredibly full and moves with you, and, the green of the skirt pulls from the green in the corset. The pink blouse is cute and romantic with it's ruffles and puffy sleeves, but it's not as fairytale as previous outfits.
