This skirt reminds me of a day in the summer a few years ago, when my now husband, then fiance, went to tour a few parks for our wedding venue and was soaked in sweat. I remember destroying a pair of sandals by tripping over a rock, and I remember being in love with a park that ended up not even being available for our date, even though we had to give our date to tour.

Don't want to wear just a dress? Add a skirt.

I remember reading this book as a kid, where the main character's teacher layered a lot of clothes so masterfully, and when being replicated by the character, they end up looking weird. I'm the teacher and the teacher at the same time.

This collar is from Magnus on Instagram, and I cannot tell you how much I love their collars. This is my second one, and this one is lolita (the subculture) inspired, and I love the frills and the wide back and it gives me those ultra feminine vibes. I layered it over a white short sleeve blouse with interesting sleeves, and under a black mock dress, which I layered under a pleated skirt. It's not as hot as you think it would be for summer, since these layers are all very lightweight and breathable. It's just another example of my unnecessary layering.

I saw a bag of tortilla chips on an endcap at Target called "Late July" this week, and I was like, oh, how fitting. And, then, last night, someone was setting off fireworks in our neighborhood and I exclaimed to my husband, "It's late July--it's a bag of tortilla chips--why are they setting off fireworks?!"

I found it funny, at least.

Late July, as in the time of the month and not a brand of chips, reminds me of my childhood. It make me nostalgic for those bleary eyed summer days, where your eyes feel like they're sweating from the heat, and the harsh sunbeams that bounce of off any light surface that make it hard for you to see. It's the anxiousness of the school year approaching, but also the excitement of back to school shopping. It's staying up too late and watching the after hours TV you can't watch during the school year (Adult Swim, anyone?) and spending all day outside, from sun up to sundown. I just get nostalgic for late July.

Red is my summer color, apparently, because the more I look at my wardrobe, the more I see red and I love it. Red easily transitions into fall and winter, and though this number is definitely a summer/late summer/early fall dress, it's still going to last a few seasons, and that itself is great.

I live in the Midwest, which is known for having an array of seasons, sometimes in the same week, and having clothing that can easily go from a hot day to a chilly day is important to me, because, otherwise, I have to constantly dip back into my clothing storage to get heavier clothing or lighter clothing out, which is an annoying way to live. Admittedly, I do have things that are single season, but I try to layer them unnecessarily to create visual interest in an outfit that would otherwise be boring.

This red dress is a recent pickup from Poshmark. I don't allow myself to buy clothes without first selling clothes, so, I sold some clothes on Posh and used the credit to buy this dress and some other things. My style has changed over the last year, so I'm slowly trying to incorporate my style of clothing into my wardrobe in a more ethical, affordable way. I want to show people that you can truly be stylish with secondhand clothes, and not be stylish because of secondhand clothes.

Yellow and brown are a natural combination that I use and abuse. Add white into the mix and to me, it looks so neutral, even though I know yellow is vibrant and eye catching. I think everyone has their own neutral colors, and yellow is one of mine for sure!

Red is a summer color, and this dress, though meant for winter, is a great summer dress. It is very lightweight and breezy and it's so, I don't know, Sabrina inspired? It's a great dress!

I belted the dress with a western inspired double buckle belt and added a coordinated black wide brim and pointed toe flats for a Sabrina meets the West look.

A tale of three different shades of pink coexisting in one outfit. Honestly, today is just a day of rearranging the bedroom and laundry, so, I don't have to be so excitedly dressed, thankfully.

I like a monochrome outfit, now if I only had a pink hat...

I've said this before, but, I wear hats and light layers to diffuse sunlight because I'm sensitive to the sun. I use SPF, too, but, the more protection, the better! That's why robes like this are good for me in the summer, because they aren't too hot to wear and they also offer sun protection. Minimal, of course, but, still.

I put the robe over a basic outfit of a lace blouse and a pink pleated skirt, and I belted the robe over the outfit. Talk about a colorful and magical summer outfit!

I'm fighting the urge to chant "black and yellow", because, that song was so prevalent in high school that whenever I see the combo, the song just instantly plays in my head.

Well, wouldn't you know, red and yellow go together, too!

I was asked by someone offline if I was a "housewife". I don't know what that entails, considering I do genuinely have a "9-5" job I do from home, so,  I'm going to guess, no, I'm not. But, I do remember the Desperate Housewives show, and how one character wore button downs semi unbuttoned and I thought, why not, let's do that!

I rarely buy garments that I can't wear multiple ways, but, this one was an exception, because, clearly, it's really only going to be worn on one way, like this. It'd be pretty difficult to put a skirt over this dress to wear it like a top.

That moment you have two dresses that go together!

I'm such a fan of layering dresses, especially when they go so well together, so, this was an obvious outfit to don. The greens are perfect together, and the length of the dresses are the same, so, the layering is so satisfying!

Life is too short to not wear yellow!

Yellow is very obviously my favorite color--it's cheerful, bright and eye-catching, and it is truly great for all seasons. I used to struggle wearing it because, what goes with yellow? Well, come to find out, a whole lot does. My favorite combination as of late is pink and yellow, but, also, brown and all other neutrals, green, orange--the combinations are all pretty great!

In this outfit, I paired yellow with white and brown for a very neutral colored outfit with a big pop of yellow!

Honesty guys, it's too hot for m to lament over my fat arms. It's too hot for me to cover them up in sleeves (even though you guys know I LIVE for a good sleeve) and it's too hot for me to pretend like I am even bothered by them. Don't get me wrong, my arms are not what I hate about my body, I'm just conscious that are covered in KP.

I am resort ready, baby. No worries though, I'm not going anywhere, I'm just feeling those poolside vibes with this robe! I scored it on thredUp and it is the epitome of summer, I swear. It also has cute sleeves and a ruffle hem, which you know is the key to my heart. I styled it with an olive green maxi dress, to coordinate with the hints of green in the floral of the robe, and pink slide sandals, to also coordinate with the pink in the robe.

Square necks make me feel like a princess? I'm obviously not, but, I mean, maybe casually I can feel like one. I think it's because when I think of a princess, I think of exposed collarbones and a straight neck line, and a square neckline does that. And, the Duchess of Cambridge has worn a many dresses and blouses with a square neckline, so, I mean, I'm not too off with my thinking.

As cool as these shoes look, they're terrible quality. I got them secondhand, and it's clear why someone wanted to get rid of them. 0/10. They do look super cool, though!

Florals for summer? Groundbreaking. Miranda quote aside, florals in summer are a thing I've seen but I don't really partake in often. This dress is a score from Poshmark, and the print is reminiscent of a dress I saw an older relative wear when I was a kid, and I'm not going to lie, I love that.

This is not intentionally red, white and blue. I'm not purposefully being patriotic. Like a lot of people, I'm not really into being patriotic at the moment.

Welcome to July! It's supposed to be one of the hottest months of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, and if mid to late June was hot and humid than I am not looking forward to July.

This dress is picnic ready. If we lived near the water, believe me, I'd be wearing this dress, social distancing with a mask on and living my best life water side.
