Three cheers to the three day weekend! Except I still have to work Monday, so, it's not a three day weekend of me.
Lace and leopard are a match made in heaven and I don't even need to explain why I styled them together. Just add leather and you have a classic cool girl outfit, but it's a bit too hot for leather, so lets go for brown accents to summerize the look.

I just want to layers, guys. Dresses under skirts with tights and cardigans...ugh. I know it's basic to love fall, but it's just fast approaching and that's all I want.
Plus, I never claimed to not be basic. I don't think there is anything wrong with liking what other people like, and doing what other people do. If you base your life around being basic versus being more complex, I feel like you're not being yourself. If you have to force yourself to like things for the sake of being a more complex, unique person, than I think you're building yourself up to not actually being yourself. If you like Pumpkin Spice than drink it. If you like fall than proclaim it. Life is too short to try to be someone you're not.
That's a lot of words for saying it's okay to like fall.

Layering makes it seem like you know what you're doing. Layering is the number one consistent thing that I do in my outfits. I like to layer interest under plain, and I like to layer collars under collarless, and I like to put jackets, cardigans and shawls over complete outfits, and it just takes your outfit to the next level.
Of course, it is too hot to don any of the aforementioned outerwear, so I have to scratch the itch with just layering lightweight dresses, but hey, it works!

So, Pumpkin Spice Latte made it's yearly debut today, so it's not only me who is in that fall mood. I don't like pumpkin spice--apple cider for life--but it's just a reminder that fall is closer than we think!

I love summer items in fall colors, and this dress is going to be perfect with tights when the weather gets too cold for bare legs!

Why yes, I do wear things like this while grocery shopping. Grocery shopping is a necessary evil in the world, and though I could pay for someone else to do it (no thanks), I would rather just do it myself. And, why would I dress any differently at a grocery store than any other place?
I love pink and green together, especially olive dress and pastel pink. It's borderline too Spring-y for this time of year, but I like it nonetheless!

I'm starting to bring a little of my fall wardrobe into my late summer wardrobe, piece by piece, like this yellowy brown basic top. Well, it looks basic from the front but it has faux suede cording on the back that laces up. I paired it with a safe color, black, and added browns to ground the yellow and black. The thing about this outfit is, though it's fall inspired, it's still wildly appropriate for summer. The sleeves are 3/4 length, it's lightweight, the skirt is lightweight, so no melting for the sake of style here!

Thrifted Wrap Dress as Top
On Instagram I asked the world how to style a wrap dress and the world said, basically, "however you like", so that's what I did. I don't like garments that aren't multi-functional. Can I layer them? Are they multi-seasonal? If I can't think of how to wear something more than one way, it's not for me, so I'm glad I stuck to myself and styled it the way I would, with a skirt!

It looks like this outfit would be too hot to wear, but these layers are actually super light.
Layering in the summer can be a challenge, but just know this: you can take off your layers. I know, right? Mindblowing. People in real life ask me all the time if I'm hot when I wear layers. Firstly, yes, absolutely, thanks for noticing, and secondly, if i'm too hot I just take the layers off. If this outfit was too hot for me, which it wasn't, I would just take off the "kimono" I'm wearing as a top. I have a flowy pink camisole underneath it and I would be just fine!

Much to my dismay, it is still the 90s outside, so I decided to take the temperature reading as inspiration for today's outfit.
When you're an early morning telecommuter for work, it is the little things that make a day seem more normal. For me, it's brunch as a lunch. And, when you work from home, you can wear whatever you want, like a 90s style spaghetti-strap-dress-over-short-sleeve-top look. It was perfect for a brunch of toast and poached eggs on arugula. Insert chefs kiss here.

So, wrap dresses are a thing. I don't know how exactly I feel about them being a thing on me, but I think I like it.
I have avoided wrap dresses in the past because it seems like they're the plus size default basic dress. Have a fat stomach? Throw a flowy wrap dress over it. And, don't get me wrong, plus size women look fantastic in wrap dresses, I just don't know if I do.
How do you style them? Can you layer them? Do you tie the tie on the side like I did, or do you tie them in the front or back? Can I use a different belt? So many questions!

I like to wear yellow on the dreariest days. It's been off and on storming today and the yellow just helps to brighten my mood. No wonder yellow is my favorite color.
I recently started to post everyday on Instagram and I want to try to blog everyday too. It's going to be hard and I'm going to undeniably miss a day here or there, but I want to make a conscious effort to post more!

The state fair as always had a special place in my heart growing up, because it meant the return of school, the return of fall and the end of summer. August, to me, is the beginning of the fall, and though I'm about actually about month off from that, I still can't shake it.

The fair is filled with bad-for-you foods and rides that may not be the best to be riding after those foods, but it's nostalgic for me. I love the sweet lemonades and milk stand, the Indiana gown corn elotes and the non-competitive dog shows. The midway rides peering over the Midway sign and the gravel that finds its way into your shoes even though you know you didn't walk through gravel. It's the end of summer balled up into a 17 day end of summer celebration.
The key to surviving the fair is to wear socks with your shoes and to wear sun screen, which I'm glad I did both. I wanted to wear something summery but also comfortable, so I paired my loved off the shoulder blouse with a denim circle skirt I recently thrifted, along with my casual white canvas shoes. Summery? Check. Comfy? Check. Socks with shoes? Check.
What event happens that signifies the end of summer to you?
