Styling a Yellow Sweater for Spring

Styling a Yellow Sweater for Spring, a blog post by Katie Selt for The Katie Edit www.thekatieedit.com

Spring is here and yellow is one of those colors that just radiates warm weather feelings. Which is ironic, considering this sweater is yellow. Spring is also still cold for a lot of people out there, and it's pretty dismissive to pretend that everyone throws their sweaters to the side once Spring arrives. So, for those of us out there with a Spring where it still snows and is cold, here's a lookbook for you:

Rainbows Ahead

An outfit consisting of a yellow high neck with puffy long sleeves tucked into a neon pink, pastel pink, pastel yellow and pastel blue horizonal striped organza midi skirt and pastel pink clogs
Thrifted sweater, Old Atlantic Pacific x Halogen skirt, thrifted heels

PSA: All of these outfits can be paired with tights, too, especially in a coordinating color.

When I scored this sweater off of Poshmark (it's a secondhand Atlantic Pacific x Halogen piece, of course) I knew it needed to be paired with a sister item from the same collection. It's perfection and has all the right optimistic colorful and unabashedly bright colors you expect with Spring and Summer. The yellow is matching the yellow in the skirt, and the bright pink and bright yellow harmonize to create a super bright, super in your face outfit.

Toned Down Tulle

Yellow is bright and scary to some, so, to tone it down, you can pair it with all black. The yellow is a pop of color in an otherwise monochromatic outfit, but you still get the comfort and predictability of black. This tulle skirt is such a good skirt, by the way, and it's perfect for adding drama to a basic outfit, and adding texture and shine, which all outfits can benefit from.

Green and Grounded

Green and yellow appear together in nature, so it's only natural to combine them together to help ground the yellow and behave like a different color. This is similar to the black, but instead of making yellow the main focus, you're purposely coordinating green around the yellow to make the yellow less vibrant. You see how instantly the yellow is less electric and less bright when paired with the green? The dark green doesn't compete with the lemon yellow, but it also isn't just there as a neutral. The green beret and the green skirt frame the sweater, and the length of the skirt makes the yellow unbalanced, making it not as prominent in the outfit. Because, let's be honest, is the sweater the main focus with the skirt is large and sweeping?
