What is whimsigoth? Short for whimsigothic, it's a 90s inspired style that mixes romantic, edgy and boho to create outfits ala Charmed, Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Practical Magic. To me, it is nostalgic rolled up with a pretty bow, because I grew up in a house of subtle occultism, or, how I called it, a Christian mother who seemed to daydream about magic, and channeled that through her shows. Port Charles, Charmed and Practical Magic were common viewings growing up, and shows like Sabrina the Teenage Witch was a favorite of mine, so, I have a love for this aesthetic.
Pink isn't a common color seen in the whimsigothic aesthetic but I can't deny it. It's about the textures and silhouette, and though circle skirts aren't seen a lot in this trend, velvet is, and this velour fits perfectly. It's a Phoebe Buffay inspired outfit, who is a token whimsigothic idol.
Dramatic sleeves play off the flowy layers of the boho aspect of whimisgoth, and these massive angel sleeves deliver! I layered this tie up blouse over a sheer black star print shirt, for the ever present astrology aspect of this aesthetic, and then styled it with a 90s inspired skirt.
As you can see, this aesthetic relies a lot on black. I paired this dark floral (a mainstay) scarf with a leather camisole ticked into a black accordion pleated mini skirt, which admittedly, isn't very 90s, but is is witchy, which is half the look.
The 90s were a time of hair bandanas, and I did the unthinkable and wore one. It's not my favorite looks, but I think this outfit in general is the most 90s.
